CDL Minded Entrepreneur is both a general guide on being an entrepreneur, providing sound advice on developing positive and practical habits in order to scope out a new creative CDL career, and a more technical guide offering nuts and bolts tips on becoming successful (i.e., understanding vehicle expenses, employee wages, legal matters and taxes, among other things). A pervasive theme is developing a good “CDL Mindset” to pilot you through the process of first understanding your strengths and weaknesses and making adjustments, then setting reasonable short and longer term goals, then making daily routines to optimize your experience, and then executing the plan with emotional intelligence, patience but in enthusiastic high-gear drive. The author’s acronym GAME is very effective, as he unpacks every step. GAME stands for Goal, Actionable, Measurable and Effective. This book offers excellent advice toward developing the right high-motivation mental approach, gathering together all the needed resources, covering various technical bases and going forward with smarts and gusto. Sprinkled throughout are “insider” trade secrets and shortcuts to smooth out the process.

I love this little book. The writing is fluent and concise, easy to read but full of well-founded advice about starting a career. I don't have a Commercial Drivers License, and I'm never going to get one. However--I write books. And all the advice Joe Ryder gives for starting out with the goal of being a CDL entrepreneur is the same advice I would give a beginning writer for tackling a book project in terms of time management, prioritizing, and so forth. This book is a hundred pages of easy-to-understand tips and advice for anyone reaching for that long-term goal.

I have a CDL but I don't use it. After reading through this book I am feeling motivated to use it again. I love the author's action plan and how to build your own. The list of tax deductions in the back is excellent. A good book for commercial drivers.

The book covers a lot of what it takes to run a successful business and combines it with how it could help you when starting your own business in the trucking industry. I got my CDL with multiple endorsements and have been driving for some time now. I really enjoyed the tips in this book and i'm sure you will too.
